About
In the year 1964 SAHAYATRI was born. A small group of youth, mostly football lovers, living in and around Shibpur, inspired by their deep attachment with football, sports and games, met and discussed amongst themselves, in all seriousness, how to make their lives more meaningful and purposeful.
Initially it started with Practice of Football in an organized manner and subsequently followed by a Football Coaching Centre for the local enthusiastic footballers and Football lovers under the guidance and care of dedicated personalities, like Respected Mantu Sarkar, Swapan Chakraborty, Asit Das, etc. On several special occasions like the Foundation day distinguished speakers, i.e. Football Coaches, eminent Footballers, Football Organisers, like Mantu Sarkar, Swapan Chakraborty, Asit Das, Subrata Chatterjee (Gadai), Arun Ghosh, Ashok Chatterjee, Binoy Panja, Prof. Prabir Banerjee, Pradip Mukherjee, Pradip Ganguly, MC Mondal etc were invited for boostering the young footballers and trainees. The tiny banyan seed which was sown then has sprouted and grown into a small plant. It is hoped that it will grow into a huge banyan tree giving shelter to thousands of scorched souls.
After functioning in this way for 42 years, in 2006, when sports are not being considered as a backbone of any development and on a particular day, when most of Veteran Footballers, Organisers and sympathizers of Sahayatri assembled on the occasion of Swaran Sabha of our beloved Sudip Chatterjee, former India Captain who demised at his unnatural time, it was felt that if the activities were to be given a permanent shape, it was necessary to make the organization more organized and penetrating to its purpose of development of sports and thus Swaran of Sudip will be meaningful.
The need for more space as well as a permanent Play Ground for the Club were keenly felt, But we had virtually no funds to purchase any ground. Further, the land must be located in and around Shibpur area itself since this is an organization where major participants are not coming from the reach family rather most of the members came from lower middle class families with enormous family responsibilities and in which case it is impossible for them to travel a longer distance to attend the football ground by exploiting their precious time and monies.
Miraculously, in a manner very similar to the parable of Sri Ramakrishna (rain on a Swati Star day, human skull, snake, frog, etc.) a Play Ground was located at Shibpur (Near Kaipukur) itself was available and we have decided to convert the ground into a Permanent Football Coaching Centre realizing the total lack of Football and facilities to the footballers in rural Bengal, in the Memory of our most Beloved and esteemed Footballer of India Late Sudip Chatterjee to keep his enormous contribution for the football of India, in the memory of the people of Shibpur, Howrah. Consequently many local people involved themselves to make the dream into reality. Mr. Atanu Sengupta, Siddhartha Mukherjee (Dustu), Prabir Chatterjee, Ram Mukherjee (Ram da) and so on mainly took initiative to organize and local MLA Hon’ble Sri K.K Roy extended his cooperation to sanction More than Rs.10 lacs from his LAD to develop the ground.
Our Objectives: - To inculcate Sports, specially through Football amongst in and around younger of the society for their mental and physical development and professional upliftment of the young generation is our sole motto. We lay emphasis on academic achievement side by side with the physical development. We are proud that till date Sahayatri have produced some eminent footballers like Sudip Chatterjee, Subrata Chatterjee, Kunal Mukherjee, Binoy Panja, Pradip Talukdar, Tridip Talukdar, Saibal Chatterjee, Achinta Das, Rabin Choudury, Probodh das Sharma, Arup Manna,Bhuban Chatterjee who are being acknowledged in India, State and district level.
